guys, I think Why Do You Love Me is Shirley not really believing that her fans love her. And it's about her relationship with the members of the band when nothing was happening for them creatively before Bleed Like Me. The video makes it all super-clear. The scenes in the bath may be about her personal doubts about a friend, or perhaps about the doubts we all have? Amazing song.

Shirley is writing about herself. I think she is admitting she doesn't feel as beautiful as her airbrushed images and that a lot of what magazines print about her is a distorted version of the truth. But in the end, to promote a record and sell Garbage, she get's back up and goes through the photo shoots and interviews all over again.
Can't believe Shirley would not speak out, but it seems she kept quiet when she needed to speak out. Or she may be talking about all people who find themselves in the shadows when they could or shoud be speaking up for themselves.
